Code of Conduct*

The New Trier East Class of 1980 (Class of 1980)  Reunion Committee is dedicated to providing a harassment-free and inclusive event experience for everyone regardless of gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disabilities, neurodiversity, physical appearance, body size, ethnicity, nationality, race, age, religion, or other protected category. We do not tolerate harassment of event participants in any form. The Class of 1980 Reunion Committee  takes violations of our policy seriously and will respond appropriately.

Classmates, whether reunion attendees, Facebook group members, and participants in other reunion-related events are expected to conduct themselves with integrity, collegiality and care while participating in Class of 1980 communications, interactions, meetings, and/or events. Class of 1980 events are defined as any in-person or virtual event used to bring together members of the Class of 1980. This policy extends to any social events affiliated with a Class of 1980 event. Conduct details include:

  • Acting in a collegial and appropriate manner at all times during a Class of 1980 event or social function.

  • Refraining from any activity or action that could adversely reflect upon Class of 1980 or that is inconsistent with treating all Class of 1980 members, significant others, or children with dignity and respect.

  • Refraining from use of illegal intoxicating substances, while participating in a Class of 1980 event.

  • Respecting the opinions of fellow event attendees, leaving personal prejudices, or past grievances out of all discussions.

  • Representing themself in a positive and supportive manner.

  • Showing respect and courteous conduct.

  • Complying with Class of 1980’s zero-tolerance policy for harassment at all Class of 1980 business and/or social functions.

  • Class of 1980 provides a comfortable and inclusive experience for every attendee regardless of gender identity and/or expression, sexual orientation, disabilities, neurodiversity, physical appearance, ethnicity, nationality, race, age, religion, or any other protected category.

Class of 1980 has a zero-tolerance policy for harassment of attendees, significant others, event staff, etc. in any form, including, but not limited to:

  • Verbal language that reinforces social structures of domination

  • Sexual imagery and language

  • Deliberate intimidation

  • Stalking/following

  • Harassing photographs or recordings

  • Sustained disruption of talks or other events

  • Offensive verbal language

  • Unwelcome sexual or physical attention

In relation, but not limited to:

  • Gender identity

  • Gender expression

  • Sexual orientation

  • Disabilities

  • Neurodiversity

  • Appearance

  • Body size

  • Ethnicity

  • Nationality

  • Race

  • Age

  • Religion

  • Pregnancy

We encourage you to report any behavior that makes you or others feel uncomfortable. Harassment, discrimination, and disrespect are not only not tolerated, but we encourage anyone who witnesses any such behavior to report it. If you are being harassed or feel uncomfortable, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please reach out to a Class of 1980 Reunion Committee member.
